Emergency Room Staff Nurse
1. Provides direct and indirect patient care activities and professional nursing service required in the nursing care of patients in the emergency room
2. Utilizes nursing process to:
• Admit patient
• Obtain nursing history
• Identify nursing care priorities
• Assess patient’s problems
• Develop patient’s care plans
3. Observes patients and institutes appropriate measures in emergency and crisis situations; reports and record information to physicians and to head nurse/supervisors.
4. Administers and records medication, cognizant of reactions and reports harmful side effects to physicians.
5. Adheres to nursing service and emergency room policies and procedures in performance of patient care activities.
6. Documents in the E.R. sheet all the nursing observation and care provided to patient in the E.R. to be incorporated in the patient’s chart.
7. Assist the physician in the treatment in administering highly specialized therapy or in performing highly complicated procedures in E.R.
8. Answers ambulance booking in coordination with the admitting clerk.
9. Goes out with the ambulance team during ambulance conduction.
• Sees to it that all pertinent data of patient were taken during ambulance booking.
• Sees to it that the ambulance team is ready and must have leave within five minutes from the time of booking.
• Notifies the ambulance driver and the other members of the team.
• Accomplishes all charges and replaces all medicines and supply used
• Secures a medical abstract if patient is for transfer
• Sees to it that all hospital bills including ambulance fee are settled by the patient
• Informs hospital where patient is to be transferred
10. Participates in the general activities of the nursing service and assist in the orientation and evaluation of new personnel and students.
11. Maintains good interpersonal relationship with the patients, relatives and other department’s staff
