Technical support - Sam Thackeray
Sam Thackeray is a Technical Support looking for employment in London
Full name: Sam Thackeray
Objectives:
Having worked with computers and specifically Technical Support for a number of years I have acquired the ability to easily relate to customers both in person and over the phone making it easier for me to visualise and solve their problems. I am now looking for new challenges to improve not only my own skill set but also that of the company.
Skills:
• Good telephone manner. I find it very easy to relate to people both in person and over the phone which helps when trying to understand their problems.
• Wide knowledge of windows networking including basic experience using Active Directory, DNS and Microsoft Exchange Server. Also includes experience in physically setting up networks involving routers (both wired and wireless) as well as firewall technology (both software and hardware).
• Good knowledge of all standard Microsoft products including: Windows (95-Vista), Office, Outlook, Outlook Express and Visio.
• Moderate understanding of HTML and Flash website creation, moderate to advanced expertise in the use of 3D Studio Max (5years) and basic to moderate skill with both Photoshop and Paint Shop Pro.
• Good general knowledge of computer hardware and the general state of the hardware industry including a vast experience in the building and setting up of computers.
Work Experience:
Oct 8th 2007 – Mar 28th 2009 – Technical Support - CA Traffic, Milton Keynes
During my time with CA Traffic I not only improved my technical knowledge but also gained vital experience in both over the phone and onsite support allowing me to think quickly on my feet.
• Assisting customers on the phone with any hardware or software issues they may have with any of the company’s bespoke database (access and SQL server) products. The ability to visualise the customers’ problems is of vital importance when trying to fix an issue over the phone. Ensuring your instructions are both accurate yet easy to understand and that the customer who may not be literate in the use of a computer is happy with the level of support offered to them.
• Provide onsite assistance. This can involve anything from a simple fix to teaching an entire office of people how the company’s systems work.
• It was also my responsibility to be the primary beta tester for all new versions of the company’s many software packages.
Sept 8th 2004 – July 1st 2007 – Field Administrator - University of Bedfordshire, Luton
While working for the University of Bedfordshire I performed many different roles from administrator to academic advisor allowing me to see the big picture from many different angles.
• Primary duties involved administrative tasks such as typing, printing, filing, organising, creation of spreadsheets/databases and the addition and removal of students’ modules/grades.
• Extensive front of house experience working in the academic advisory, which involved advising students on any academic issues they may have.
• Good communication skills are essential in this position as a student’s entire academic life could be swayed by the advice given, especially as English isn’t the first language for the majority of the students in Luton.
Education:
• BSc with Honours in Computer Science, 2:2 Grade
• Advanced GNVQ in Information Technology, Merit Grade
• 8 GCSE’s all C grade and above
